Information please . . .

So I was looking back through the archives in an effort to see what subjects had gotten too much or not enough attention in order to sharpen my vision as I consider future subject matter and I noticed that I’d failed to note the passing of TGI’s Five Year Anniversary. So before I dive into this week’s column, let me just take a moment to extend a sincere thanks to all the readers and commenters who have kept the traffic flowing and thus kept this resource viable. One thing we can never know is just how often some surfer comes across our site and draws some important moral support from some bit of information here, or even some comment in reply.

It’s with that in mind that I’m going to attempt something new here. It seems to me that for a site like this, there are two, maybe three, broad areas which are the sort of things for which those seeking information would be looking. One of these is fashion and makeup tips, advice for the crossdresser on how to do it well. I’m just going to go ahead and confess that I’m not your go-to girl for that. I’ve never been able to afford to play at that level in terms of what’s the best make-up to use, the best breast forms, or whatever. I can talk about what I consider a good everyday look, what’s a good and gab idea (I have a good friend who’s still closeted due to her career and her make-up skills are just rudimentary. Too much blush, too bold on the eye shadow, and so forth. One of the arts of this skill set is understanding how to dial back to the proper level. But beyond that, I’m out of my depth other than answering when someone asks “Does this look good?”

The other major area is general transgender knowledge that the vast majority of the population simply doesn’t know. Even those who would be classified as transgender in some sense are often woefully ill-informed. And far more so those people who are connected to the lives of trans people. One of these things which is blindingly obvious if one keeps up with the news of the day, is that despite the wealth of in formation provided by the internet, the ignorance level is still far too high. THIS is a need that plays right into my strengths as a writer.

(Continued below...)

In forums and such like where I participate, my reputation is that of a girl who never says in 40 words what she can say in 400. These subjects I intend to discuss are pretty heavy for this format, and so my challenge will be to give a comprehensive overview of the week’s subject in a limited space. But I’ve come to feel some responsibility to try to bring some clarity on what I feel are some basic “need to know” topics that the seeker might be in need of learning. I recognize and respect that this site primarily targets the crossdresser audience, and I’ll try to always remember that context, but I hope you will forgive that it’s necessary, for clarity to “start at the beginning” – don’t worry that I’ve lost that focus as you read the upcoming series over the coming weeks.

If I do this well, I’ll give you a resources that you can refer the concerned, the curious, the hostile to for better understanding.
