Fall Fashion 2012 for Crossdressers and Trans Women
As the fall season approaches its a good time to expand your feminine wardrobe. It’s time to put away those summer staples like short shorts, camies, and iced tea and pull out the flannel pajamas, fuzzy socks, sweaters, scarves, and hot chocolate. I’m always excited when fall rolls in – because I feel like fall styles are more conducive to my personal style – and therefore allow me to express myself a little bit more. I also think it helps me pass a little better. Wearing more clothing helps cover up and help hide the aspects of my body that are read as male.
As we turn a new leaf and summer turns to fall figuring out what to wear can be difficult, especially for us crossdressers who were not brought up with women’s fashion. Below you will find my favorite tips for fall fashion.
Popular Fall 2012 Patterns and Colors
It’s time to put away your pastels and floral prints and start prepping for the new wave of trends. The color dark blue is going to be very in this season. All of the fall fashion weeks featured many garments that used navy blue. They also included colors like burgundy and white. Popular fabrics this fall seem to be knits, leather / pleather accents, and complex print patterns.
Darks Base With a Splash of Color
A good friend of mine gave me some of the best fashion advice I’ve ever received. She told me to start with black as a base and then build in a color. Fall is a great time to do this as dark colors like black and dark blue are very popular during the fall. Start with a black base: jeans, leggings, or skirt and then add a splash of color. I like to add the color into my tops, accessories, and shoes. Even though darker colors are popular the right splash of a bright color can make a big statement. You will stand out and make an impression!
Invest in a Good Piece of Outerwear
As summer turns to fall and fall quickly subsides into winter, a must have for your wardrobe is good outerwear. I spent the last two years living on the east coast of the United States and on same days fall felt more like winter. The best investment I made was in a really good quality women’s coat. I recommend the peacoat, which has been increasingly popular in recent years. A good peacoat can be part of your everyday wardrobe. Pick a color that will be versatile: black, dark grey, and navy blue are popular choices. If you’re feeling a little bit daring try a brighter blue, red, or yellow for your coat. The good news is, even if the peacoat passes out of the fashion spotlight it will still be a practical simple garment for the fall and winter. Besides you’ll need it to protect from the cold.
(Continued below...)A Thousand Options: Scarves
Above I mentioned adding a splash of color. Scarves are a wonderful and practical way to do so. There are so many different ways to wear scarves. Many websites provide guides on the different ways you can tie them. The possibilities are almost endless! As I mentioned above, scarves are a great way to add a splash of color to your wardrobe and make a statement. Find something that brings out your eyes! You’ll look stunning!
Learn the Value of a Good Boot
One perennial fall staple is a good boot. No shoe choice screams fall and feminine than a boot that falls just below the knee. Personally I keep three boots easily accessible in my closet during the fall. I recommend you have a good flat boot for days where you have to do a lot of walking. It’s also a good idea to own a nice pair of heeled boots – personally I’m not much stilettos so I go for about a two-inch practical chunky heel that functions as an every day boot as well. I also really like the style of the two-three inch wedge boot so that’s my own personal third choice. No matter what though, boots are a great addition to your feminine wardrobe so don’t forget the footwear!
Don’t forget the Black Tights!
Nothing finishes off a fall outfit like a pair of black tights. Tights and leggings are an inexpensive way to feminize and diversify your wardrobe. Both tights and leggings also serve a practical purpose. Any time you are feeling a little chilly, adding tights to an outfit can help you keep warm. Pair them with your favorite skirt or casual dress to provide a stellar look for fall.
