Better Know about the CNP
If you think that repugnant dude in the photo is representative of the forces serving to resist equality in this country, get yourself a cup of coffee and keep reading. Because as nauseating as he is, he’s not even a significant patch on the real problem.
If you pay any attention to the national political landscape – and if you’re trans and you don’t, what the hell is wrong with you? – you probably have heard of a name or two when it comes to the groups which actively work to repress equality for LGB/T persons and particularly of late, transgender people. These are often designated (correctly) by the Southern Poverty Law Center as “hate groups” which the hate groups take considerable umbrage to. So that we’re clear, the SPLC doesn’t bestow the designation lightly, based on political disagreement, but rather it comes from documenting that the group has a track record of spreading documentable falsehoods to demonize a targeted minority.
What you might not know is that virtually all of these anti-LGB/T groups, and their prominent leadership, as well as most prominent members of Donald Trump’s inner circle are affiliated with what is ubiquitously known as the “Center for National Policy.” In many ways the CNP is one leg a three-legged stool that constitutes a virtual shadow government in our country. The weakest of the three legs, the Russian influence, in peculiar to Trump and just a couple of members of Congress and is largely dependent on a web of shadowy and usually illegal financial interactions such as money laundering. But given it has much less interest in a specific domestic agenda in the U.S. – other than political chaos – it is therefore a transitory threat, easily overcome once realized.
But the other two are a much different story. One of those two is the cadre of Billionaires led and controlled by the Koch Brothers. Perhaps I’ll go into some details and refer you to sources on this one in the future, though it’s really off-topic for this site. If you are impatient and are on Twitter, I recommend following @Khanoisseur for research on both these “other” legs, but be prepared to literally be drowned in information.
That brings us to the CNP. Whereas the Koch faction is the money machine which drives policies, often economic, by virtue of big steamy piles of cash, the CNP is the organizing group which directs the “shock troops” out in the fields of American right wing grassroots politics. If you’ve ever wondered who solid, reasonable, moderate Republican politicians always die on the vine in the Republican primaries – it’s largely due to the influence of the CNP. Those hearty individuals who knock on doors and pass out pamphlets and spend hours caucusing in the dead of winter are passionately motivated by the ideas indoctrinated into them by their Pharisee leaders – and those leaders are, ultimately, CNP.
The group is highly secretive about membership, but a member list from 2014 was leaked containing over 420 names. I should note that there’s significant overlap between the Koch orbit and this list. Many names are obscure, but also some very recognizable members of the right wing social-con Pharisee groups which SPLC has identified, as well as influential political leaders. Some examples: Steve Bannon, Gary Bauer, Ken Blackwell, David Bossie (brought disastrous Citizens United suit, worked as Trumps Deputy Campaign Manager), Rich Bott (owns a radio network), Brent Bozell, Elsa Prince (Betsy DeVos’ mom), Brian Brown (NOM), Herman Cain, Kellyanne Conway, Jerome Corsi…and that’s just down through the “C’s” – also further down are such luminaries as AFA’s Tim Wildmon and Liberty Council’s Matt Staver and Focus on the Family’s Jim Dobson. See the full list here.
It is literally impossible for me to overstate the power these people hold over the GOP. And insofar as they make common cause with the Koch group which has access to essentially unlimited amounts of wealth, I cannot conceive of a scenario in which the Republican Party can be delivered from their grasp. That’s why you see seemingly nonsensical things like the governor f Texas calling special sessions to force upon his state a law the actual voters have no interest in, or how when Trump feels the heat from one scandal or another he throws a bone to the interests of these people even when there’s no overtly political logic to it.
You can read a SPLC report on the group here and this was before we watched Trump stock his transition and administration with members. Tony Perkins, perhaps Trumps biggest “face” to well meaning but brainwashed conservative Christian voters is the groups current president. In application though, it is Trump who answers to Perkins (along with the Kochs) not the other way around. If you’re a queer person and still entertaining any delusion that any aspect of the current GOP power structure does NOT want to politically grind you under their heel then you may be so delusional as to be beyond hope.
Understand, it’s not that they – for the most part – REALLY hate you, it’s that they are drunk on power, privilege, and profit – and in order to maintain the flow of these intoxicants, they need a villain, a scapegoat, a monster of which the sheep should be afraid and angry about. And that’s you. That’s me. That’s anyone who steps outside the lines of their man-made sexual traditions. It is no longer enough that we wake up and not be pawns ourselves, certainly not enough to say “I don’t really care about politics” – rest assured, they care about you, and not in a good way.
